SALT LAKE CITY-Friday afternoon, a report surfaced that criminal charges were filed against 41-year-old Claudia Vanessa Gutierrez Thompson after she crashed into another vehicle, killing the occupant.

Thompson was driving more than 80 miles per hour on North Temple in downtown Salt Lake City September 24.

Thompson’s Nissan Maxima ran a red light at the intersection of North Temple and State Street, colliding with a Honda Civic driven by 20-year-old Kaden Jacob Baxter, a former Wasatch High School star athlete.

Baxter was a native of American Fork, Utah and grew up in Heber City, starring in various sports for the Wasps.

Wasatch High School honored Baxter earlier this season as football players wore his trademark No. 8 on their helmets and knelt in prayer at the 8-yard line.
