June 3, 31-year-old Christopher Travis Herrera of Vernal shot a man eight times per police, resulting in his arrest.

Herrera has been booked into the Uintah County Jail  for investigation of murder.

June 3, Vernal Police responded to an apartment complex where they found the front door to one of the units.

A man was then seen “lying on the living room floor that appeared to have been shot several times,” per a police affidavit.

Witnesses told authorities they had seen Herrera running through the area holding a pistol, the affidavit confirmed.

He was tracked down by adult probation and parole agents assisting police. Herrera was on probation.

An autopsy revealed Herrera’s victim had been shot eight times although authorities have not yet released his name or other details about him.

Herrera was interviewed twice and during his second interview, Herrera “made statements about how [the victim] was going to shoot first.”

The affidavit further says Herrera made statements about how he wanted to hurt the victim but did not want to kill him.
