SALT LAKE CITY-Monday, Utah Governor Gary Herbert, state superintendent Sydnee Dickson and acting commissioner of technical educated Jared Haines announced Utah’s K-12 public schools will extend their dismissal through May 1.
They also announced Utah’s technical colleges will suspend teaching until May 1 because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Meal services at K-12 public schools will continue on an as-needed basis.
Students currently enrolled in technical college programs will retain their progress toward completion during this dismissal period.
College presidents will have the discretion to address any exceptions for individuals who are nearing the completion of their coursework.
The exceptions will stay in-line with the guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and if any instructional equipment can be properly sterilized.
The state COVID-19 task force, the Utah Department of Health and Herbert will continue to monitor and assess the risks.
They will also respond accordingly as they commune with Utah school officials.
