OREM, Utah-Thursday, Utah Valley University athletic director Jared Sumsion named interim men’s basketball head coach Todd Phillips as the head coach of the program.

Phillips replaces Mark Madsen, who took the same position at California-Berkeley March 29.

Phillips is a “tremendous basketball mind” Sumsion confirmed.

Phillips has previously served as the head coach at Salt Lake Community College from 2011-2019 and posted a record of 205-58 (.779). He led the Bruins to four NJCAA Tournament appearances, including the national championship in 2016.

Phillips also spent 8 seasons as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Westminster of Salt Lake City.

Phillips previously played at Snow College and NAIA Lewis-Clark State of Lewiston, Idaho.
