KENSINGTON, Md.-Sunday, President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints rededicated the Washington DC Temple.
This completes a four-year renovation of this temple which was first dedicated November 19-22, 1974 by then-Church President Spencer W. Kimball.
President Nelson was joined by his counselors in the Salt Lake City-based faith’s First Presidency, President Dallin H. Oaks and President Henry B. Eyring.
President Nelson spoke at the first dedicatory session Sunday morning as did Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Church’s Quorum of Twelve Apostles, Sister Amy A. Wright of the Primary General Presidency and Church members Bill A. Marriott and Dick Marriott of Marriott International.
President Oaks led the second dedicatory session and President Eyring led the third dedicatory session.
During the second dedicatory session, Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles spoke.
In the third dedicatory session, Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles spoke as did the Church’s presiding bishop, Gerald Causse and Elder Kevin R. Duncan, the executive director of the Church’s Temple Department.
The Washington DC Temple serves Latter-day Saints in 38 stakes in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia and West Virginia.
