Weber State Men’s Basketball Names Kaleb Canales As New Head Coach Friday

OGDEN, Utah-Friday, Weber State athletics hired Kaleb Canales as the 11th head coach in the Wildcats’ mens basketball history per numerous reports.

Canales comes to Ogden from Troy where he served as the Trojans’ associate head coach. This past season, Troy advanced to the NCAA Tournament losing to Nebraska in the round of 64.

A native of Laredo, Texas, Canales also brings 18 years of coaching experience in the NBA, including a stint as the Portland Trail Blazers’ interim head coach for 23 games in 2012. Canales also served as the head coach of Portland’s NBA Summer League team.

Canales has also served as an assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks (2013-2018) and also has coaching experience with the Indiana Pacers and New York Knickerbockers.

The 47-year-old Canales has also served as the associate head coach of Mexico’s Mens National Team since 2021.
