5A Playoffs First Round
CLEARFIELD, Utah-Izzy Wyaskett netted 25 points, 12 steals and 6 assists and the No. 11 Clearfield Falcons surged past No. 22 Brighton 66-55 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A state playoffs. Sophie Nielsen scored a game-high 33 points in defeat for the Bengals. The Falcons next visit No. 6 Wasatch Thursday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs at The Nest.
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah-Cumorah Tupola and Jenay Namulauti netted 13 points apiece and the No. 18 Timpview Thunderbirds upset No. 15 Hunter 48-37 in the first round of the 5A state playoffs Tuesday. The Thunderbirds next face No. 2 Bountiful Thursday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.
SALT LAKE CITY-Estella Myers posted 12 points and the No. 12 Skyline Eagles edged No. 21 Woods Cross 35-34 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A state playoffs. Lucy Thompson led the Wildcats in defeat with 12 points. The Eagles next visit No. 5 Alta in the second round of the state playoffs Thursday at 7:00 pm.
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah-Alexis Branch netted 23 points and the No. 20 Spanish Fork Dons upset No. 13 Granger 50-37 in the first round of the 5A state playoffs Tuesday. Hoku Pili led the Lanccers in the loss with 21 points. Spanish Fork next visits No. 4 Fremont Thursday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.
SPANISH FORK, Utah-Taizley Ball led the way with 13 points and the No. 10 Maple Mountain Golden Eagles routed No. 23 Salem Hills 64-34 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A state playoffs. Kate Barton led the Skyhawks in the loss with 14 points. Maple Mountain next visits No. 7 Olympus in the second round of the state playoffs Thursday at 7:00 pm.
PAYSON, Utah-Emmy Hales recorded 21 points and the No. 14 Payson Lions dismantled No. 19 Box Elder 53-29 in the first round of the 5A state playoffs Tuesday. Ava Miles led the Bees in defeat with 9 points. Payson next visits No. 3 West Thursday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.
SPRINGVILLE, Utah-Sami Dellamas posted 12 points and the No. 9 Springville Red Devils routed No. 24 Hillcrest Tuesday in the first round of the 5A state playoffs. Emily Mandel led the Huskies in the loss with 9 points. Springville next visits No. 8 West Jordan in the second round of the state playoffs Thursday at 7:00 pm.
TAYLOR, Utah-Baya Jimenez led the way with 17 points and the No. 17 Bonneville Lakers stonewalled No. 16 West Field 59-51 in the first round of the 5A state playoffs Tuesday. Meghan Peterson’s game-high 30 points led the Longhorns in the loss. Bonneville next visits No. 1 Pleasant Grove Thursday at 7:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.
