5A State Playoffs First Round
PROVO, Utah-Cole Engemann threw three touchdown passes and the No. 13 Timpview Thunderbirds routed No. 20 Wasatch 40-15 Friday in the first round of the 5A state playoffs. Matthew Manuma added a 39-yard touchdown pass to Jackson Palmer in victory for Timpview and Taani Tuha added a 4-yard touchdown run and Tonga Tauteoli a 30-yard interception return for a score in the win for the Thunderbirds. Ashton Nord threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Cache Coombs and Ben Brand added a 44-yard touchdown run in the loss for the Wasps. Timpview next visits No. 4 Orem Friday at 4:00 pm in the second round of the 5A state playoffs.
SANDY, Utah-Tucker Brown threw four touchdown passes and the No. 15 Alta Hawks routed No. 18 Roy 49-7 in the first round of the 5A state playoffs Friday. Bennett Coester added a scoring run and Ryker Ellis returned an interception 17 yards for another score in victory for Alta. Rock Speredon threw a touchdown pass to Synic Harvey in the loss for the Royals. Alta next visits No. 2 Fremont Friday at 4:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.
BOUNTIFUL, Utah-Hudson Malmrose threw three touchdown passes and the No. 9 Bountiful RedHawks clobbered No. 24 Clearfield 56-6 Friday in the first round of the 5A state playoffs. Zeke Murdock added two more touchdown runs in the win for Bountiful. Landon Hittle ran for a score in defeat for the Falcons. Bountiful next visits No. 8 West Jordan in the second round of the state playoffs. As of right now, there is no specified kickoff time or date for this matchup next week.
PLEASANT GROVE, Dontae Dyson returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score and added a 73-yard scoring run as the No. 17 Northridge Knights upset No. 16 Pleasant Grove 21-7 in the first round of the 5A state playoffs Friday. Dexton Nuttall ran for a 10-yard score in defeat for the Vikings. Northridge next visits No. 1 West in the second round of the state playoffs Friday at 4:00 pm.
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah-Nixon Warren ran for a pair of scores and No. 19 Spanish Fork pulverized No. 14 Hunter 42-7 Friday in the first round of the 5A state playoffs. Paula Makaafi ran for a 6-yard score in the loss for the Wolverines. Spanish Fork next visits No. 3 Springville Friday at 4:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.
HOLLADAY, Utah-Preston Ferran threw four touchdown passes and the No. 12 Olympus Titans routed No. 21 Cyprus 42-0 in the first round of the 5A state playoffs Friday. Markilo Allen and Easton Zito also ran for scores in the win for the Titans. Olympus next visits No. 5 Woods Cross Friday at 4:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs.
