5-A Softball 2nd Round
HEBER CITY, Utah-Maddy Dunn and Maysa Averett each homered as the Roy Royals downed Wasatch 13-6 Thursday in the second round of the 5-A softball playoffs at Wasatch High School. Averett also took the win in the circle and Saige Nielsen added a pair of doubles for the Royals in victory. Payge Armendariz homered and Briley Bigelow added a pair of triples in defeat for the Wasps. Charley Kelson and Maclee McFee also doubled in the loss for Wasatch. The Wasps will next play in the 5-A consolation bracket quarterfinals against Springville Tuesday at 11:00 am.
State Tennis
SALT LAKE CITY-Thursday, Wasatch High School’s boys tennis team competed at Liberty Park for the first day of the 5-A state championships.
In first doubles, Wasatch’s Region 8 champion duo of senior Trevor Bond and sophomore Carson Clark bested Bountiful’s Mitchell Felix and Michael Ebert, only to lose to Max Roberts and Drew Osbourne of Corner Canyon in the second round.
Bond and Clark were the only Wasps to advance past the first round as in first singles, Cooper Jenkins fell to Farmington’s Josh Jones.
Additionally, in 3rd singles, Jase Greenwood lost to Skyline’s star freshman Ethan Green.
Finally, in 2nd doubles, juniors Ben Hilliam and Jared Bennion fell to Charlie Jenkins and Tyler Easton of Corner Canyon.
