FORT WORTH, Texas-Colton Griffin, Rob Liddington, Jack Bell and Preston Gamster drove in a run apiece and the TCU Horned Frogs edged Utah 4-3 Sunday in Big 12 baseball play at Lupton Baseball Stadium & Williams-Reilly Field. Mason Brassfield netted a strikeout in two innings of work to earn the win on the mound for the Horned Frogs. Daniel Arambua and Matt Flaharty drove in a run apiece in the loss for the Utes. Despite the loss, Utah achieved a berth in the 2016 Big 12 baseball tournament by virtue of Houston’s victory at Arizona Saturday. The Horned Frogs improved to 32-18 and 16-11 in Big 12 play with Sunday’s win while the Utes fell to 24-22 and 11-16 in conference play. The Big 12 Tournament is May 19-23 at Surprise, Ariz. Utah returns to action Tuesday by hosting Utah Tech in a non-conference tilt.

WAC

ST. GEORGE, Utah-Preston Knott homered twice and Hank Harp also went yard as the UT Arlington Mavericks overpowered Utah Tech 8-5 in 11 innings in WAC baseball play Sunday at Clay Gould Ballpark. Hayes Melville netted four strikeouts in four innings of work to earn the win on the mound for the Mavericks. Ryan Kroepel, Miller Durham, Finnegan Stewart, Cooper Smith and Petey Soto Jr. drove in a run apiece in the loss for the Trailblazers.

Following Sunday’s results, the Trail Blazers fell to 30-21 and 7-8 in WAC play and the Mavericks improved to 18-28 and 7-8 in WAC competition.

ABILENE, Texas-Diego Cardenas belted a pair of home runs and Reese Borho also went yard as the Abilene Christian Wildcats drilled Utah Valley 16-6 Sunday in WAC baseball play at Crutcher Scott Field at Bullock Brothers Ballpark. Carson Wallace netted three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work to earn the win on the mound for the Wildcats. Derek Houston drove in a pair of runs for the Wolverines in defeat. Following Sunday’s results, the Wildcats improved to 25-26 and 8-7 in WAC play. Utah Valley fell to 16-34 and 2-13 in WAC competition. The Wolverines return to action for a short road trip Tuesday at BYU.
