USU’s Quin Ficklin Named To Rimington Trophy Spring Watch List

LOGAN, Utah-Wednesday, Utah State senior center Quin Ficklin was named to the Spring Watch List for the 2018 Dave Rimington Trophy, per an announcement by the Rimington Trophy committee.

This trophy is annually presented to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I-A (FBS) football.

Ficklin is in rarefied air as the only other Mountain West Conference center to be nominated for the award is Nevada’s Sean Krepsz.

The winner of this award will be honored at the Rimington Trophy presentation at the Rococo Theater of Lincoln, Neb. January 12, 2019.

The Mesa, Ariz. native is only the fifth Aggie in program history to be nominated for this award, including Austin Stephens (2015-2016), Tyler Larsen (2011, 2012, 2013), Ryan Tonnemacher (2007) and Brent DeLadurantey (2005).

Ficklin is a 6’2″ 290-pounder and earned third-team all-Mountain West honors from prestigious college football expert Phil Steele’s magazine as well as honorable mention all-conference honors from the league’s coaches after dutifully starting all 13 games at center in 2017 for the Aggies.

In 2017, his overall grade performance was 93 percent, ranking him first on the team and he played 911 snaps, ranking him first on the team among offensive linemen.

For the season, he graded out at 96 percent in effort, 89 percent in assignment and 82 percent in technique, allowing only one sack on the season. Furthermore, he recorded a team-best 56 knockdowns in 2017, including a season-high 11 in a 28-23 loss to Wyoming.

The Aggies return 18 starters (9 on both offense and defense) and 50 letter-winners from last season’s 6-7 squad.

The season starts August 31 at Michigan State with the Aggies’ home opener coming September 8 against New Mexico State.
