USU Men’s Basketball Signs Ukrainian National Max Shulga

LOGAN, Utah-Wednesday, Utah State men’s basketball head coach Craig Smith announced the signing of Ukrainian national Max Shulga.

Shulga played for the Ukrainian national team at the 2019 U18 FIBA European Championships, grading out as his squad’s most efficient player and ranking among the top five most efficient players in the entirety of the tournament.

Shulga is a 6-4 190-pound guard and scored in double figures in all but two games at this competition.

Shulga filled up the stat sheet, posting 13.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2 steals per game. Furthermore, he shot a blistering 61 percent from the field and 65.2 percent from inside the 3-point line and 52.9 percent from range for the Ukrainians.

Shulga starred in high school at the Basketball School of Excellence of Torrelodones, Spain. He led the league in scoring, posting 16 points per contest.

Smith lauded Shulga, calling him “tough, gritty and highly skilled” while also proclaiming he has a feel for the game.
