USU Men’s Basketball Celebrates 50 Years of the Spectrum Saturday

LOGAN, Utah-Saturday, as Utah State men’s basketball hosts Boise State, the Aggies celebrate 50 years of calling the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum home.

Four historic Aggies squads will be honored during the festivities. These include the 1979-80; 1994-95; 1999-2000; and 2009-10 teams.

These squads went a combined 94-31 (.752) and made three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Individual spotlights will also be placed on star forward Wayne Estes (1962-1965) and the late legendary head coach Ladell Andersen (an 173-96, .643, record at Utah State from 1961-1971).

Andersen led the Aggies to five NCAA Tournament appearances .

This Saturday is the 55-year anniversary of when Estes surpassed 2,000 career points.

His contributions led the Aggies to a 91-62 win over the Denver Pioneers at the Nelson Fieldhouse February 8, 1955.

The Aggies will also be wearing throwback jerseys, emblazoned with “State” to honor the Aggies’ uniforms in the 60s and 70s against the Broncos.
