SALT LAKE CITY-Friday, University of Utah men’s basketball head coach Alex Jensen announced the addition of Martin Schiller to his staff with the Runnin’ Utes.
Schiller comes to the program from Germany where he has been the head coach of Rasta Vechta of the German Bundesliga and FIBA Champions League.
Schiller has also served as the head coach of the U20 German National Team at the 2024 FIBA European Championship at Gdynia, Poland.
He has also been a head coach in Spain, serving in this capacity for Casademont Zaragoza in 2022-23.
Prior to that, he served as the head coach of Lithuanian power Zalgiris Kaunas, leading the squad to an LKL championship (the top basketball league in Lithuania).
From 2017-2020, Schiller was the head coach of the Salt Lake City Stars of the NBA G League.
In 2015, he started serving on the German National Team staff and mentored future NBA players Dirk Nowitzki, Dennis Schröder, Daniel Theis, Maxi Kleber, Paul Zipser and Moritz Wagner.
Schiller first became a coach in Austria (2002-2010), where he led three squads at the U16 level, leading them to two championships.
Additionally, Jensen hired Rico Sylvester Jr. as the program’s director of operations and player personnel Friday.
Sylvester Jr. comes to the Runnin’ Utes program from the Sacramento Kings where he served as the scouting contact for the organization and coordinated logistics for the team’s scouts.
Sylvester Jr. has previous experience at the Division I men’s college basketball level at Missouri, Louisiana Tech and Tulsa.
