SALT LAKE CITY-Monday, following the news in recent days that institutions can directly pay collegiate athletes, University of Utah athletic director Mark Harlan declared the UofU athletic department currently has $20.5 million to spend on the payment of collegiate athletes for the 2025-26 academic/athletics season which runs from August-June.
Harlan stated the athletic department is still finalizing plans for how the revenue will be shared among athletes competing at the intercollegiate level for the university.
Harlan did confirm the athletic department has added 23 new scholarships with a net total value of $1.15 million.
Harlan stated the athletic department will implement NIL contracts between the institution and athletes and expand endorsement opportunities for athletes with businesses and organizations.
Harlan also invited Utes fans to consider making a donation to the Crimson Club and thanked for all that they do to conclude his remarks.
