Preston Summerhays Repeats As Utah State Amateur Champion

MIDWAY, Utah-Saturday, as Soldier Hollow Golf Course hosted the Utah State Amateur championship, precocious 16-year-old golfer Preston Summerhays repeated as the champion of this prestigious event.

Coming off the heels of becoming the youngest-ever champion of this tournament, Summerhays had a solid encore performance by posting a 7 & 6 win over Chase Lanford of Utah State.

The son of local golf pro Boyd Summerhays, Preston Summerhays became only the 18th player in Utah history to win two state amateur titles.

Others on the list include his uncle, Danny Summerhays, a current PGA professional who also starred at BYU.

Preston Summerhays led from the start, netting three birdies on the first four holes as he went 3-up on Lanford en route to the victory.
