Preston Summerhays Could Be Among The Star Golfers To Compete At 122nd Utah State Amateur In September

PARK CITY-It is anticipated that Soldier Hollow Golf Course staple Preston Summerhays, and numerous other star golfers, will be competing at the 122nd Utah State Amateur September 1-5 at Jeremy Ranch Golf and Country Club of Park City.

This is the first time the entire tournament will be played at a single site since 2012 when the state moved to the tournament’s current format.

Utah Golf Association Executive Director Jacob Miller stated he is relieved that the event will be occurring amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

The new dates for this event ensure the longest running continuous golf tournament in the Beehive State will ensue unhindered.

This event has survived both world wars and the Spanish flu of 1918. Therefore, tournament officials ensured they did all they could to allow the tournament to continue its streak.

The new dates also permit the UGA to monitor several other organizations from the PGA Tour to local and regional tournaments on the Korn Ferry Tour.

The Korn Ferry Tour’s Utah Championship is currently slated for June 22-28 at Oakridge Country Club of Farmington.

The field will be slimmed to 144 players, with the top 32 after the 36-hole stroke play round qualifying for match play.

Qualifying rounds for this event will be played in August.

Summerhays, who resides in Scottsdale, Ariz., may not be able to participate as he will be teeing off at the U.S. Open at Winged Foot September 14.

The prodigious teenager qualified for the professional tournament by winning the U.S. Junior Amateur last year.

The Utah State Women’s Amateur commences the summer adult golf season July 13-16 at Soldier Hollow Golf Course.
