Mountain West Media Days Are Going Virtual

LARAMIE, Wyo.-Wednesday, Mountain West Conference commissioner Craig Thompson confirmed that, in a cost-cutting measure, the conference will conduct a virtual football media days session this summer.

This is because of the COVID-19 outbreak and the dates for this event have not yet been determined.

Per a Wednesday statement, Thompson confirmed this decision was made after consultation with media members, television partners, SoFi Stadium of Los Angeles and member institutions, including Utah State.

This move comes less than two weeks after Thompson reported, during an in-house interview with the league, that the Mountain West Conference is looking to cut its operating budget this year anywhere from 15-20 percent.

This year’s in-person media events were to be conducted at SoFi Stadium, the new home of the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, as this will be the site of the Mountain West Champion’s new bowl game, the Los Angeles Bowl, is scheduled to be played for the first time in December.

This game will pit the league’s champion against a Pac-12 team and replaces the now-defunct Las Vegas Bowl.
