PROVO, Utah-Tuesday afternoon, BYU men’s basketball coach Dave Rose announced his retirement during a press conference at the Marriott Center.
Rose has been either an assistant coach or head coach for the past 22 years at BYU.
Rose served as former head coach Steve Cleveland’s assistant from 1997-2005 and has been the head coach of the Cougars since that time.
During the press conference, Rose reminisced about the good times, confirming his belief that he has not had to work a day of his life.
While at the helm of the Cougars’ program, Rose posted a record of 348-135 (.720), including eight trips to the NCAA Tournament and five trips to the NIT Tournament.
Rose won four conference titles and was named as his conference’s coach of the year on three occasions.
His .720 winning percentage is the highest in program history and he is second in program history in wins with 348.
Under Rose, the Cougars had five All-Americans, including 2011 Consensus National Player of the Year Jimmer Fredette. Five Cougars were named as conference player of the year under his watch and 13 others achieved first-team all-conference honors.
In the 2010-11 season, Rose led the Cougars to a program-record 32 wins and a fourth conference title in the past five seasons.
For the time being, former Rose assistant Quincy Lewis has been appointed as the interim head coach of the program.
