PROVO, Utah-Friday, BYU men’s basketball head coach Mark Pope announced today that Caleb Lohner, the former Wasatch Academy star, signed a scholarship agreement to play with the Cougars.

The Dallas native played the past two seasons for the Tigers, netting 14.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game last season for 27-2 Wasatch Academy.

For his Wasatch Academy career, Lohner posted 12.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.

The 6-9 Lohner’s father, Matt Lohner, played at BYU under head coach Roger Reid from 1991-1992 and 1994-1996.

Lohner joins fellow freshman Hunter Erickson ( a returned Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints missionary from Timpview High School), graduate transfers Brandon Averette (Utah Valley) and Matt Haarms (Purdue) and junior college transfers Gideon George (New Mexico Junior College) and Spencer Johnson (Salt Lak Community College) as newcomers to the roster.

BYU has also signed Dallin Hall (Fremont High School), Richie Saunders (Wasatch Academy) and Tanner Toolson (Evergreen High School [Wash.]) from the class of 2020.

Each of them plan to serve missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before enrolling at BYU.

Lohner had originally signed with Utah before opting out of his letter of intent with the Utes.
