PROVO, Utah-Per Tuesday news, BYU freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week for his performance in the Cougars’ 69-0 rout of NCAA FCS Portland State of the Big Sky Conference.
Bachmeier, a Stanford transfer out of Murrieta, Calif., completed 7 of 11 passes for 97 yards and three scores in the victory.
The 6-2 220-pound Bachmeier played only two quarters in the dominant win for the Cougars.
Bachmeier and his BYU teammates return to action Saturday at 8:15 pm for a home game against Stanford as the Cougars seek a 2-0 start to the season.
