For the fifth time, BYU freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier has been named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week Monday after the Cougars defeated Utah 24-21 last Saturday at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
The native of Murrieta, Calif. completed 13 of 22 passes for 166 yards and a score while also running for 64 yards and another score in the win over the Utes.
Bachmeier has completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 1,386 yards, 9 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on the season.
Additionally, senior safety Tanner Wall was named as the Big 12’s Defensive Player of the Week. Wall recorded an interception and a season-high 10 tackles in the win for the Cougars.
Bachmeier, Wall and their BYU teammates return to action Saturday to visit Iowa State as the Big 12 season ensues for the Cougars and the Cyclones.
