Monday, BYU freshman guard/forward AJ Dybantsa was named as the co-Naismith Player of the Week for his performance against rival Utah this past weekend.
In the Cougars’ 91-78 win over the Utes, Dybantsa posted 43 points on 15-24 from the floor and 4-5 from range.
Dybantsa’s 43 points are also a freshman program record record, surpassing Danny Ainge’s 36 points in 1977 against Idaho State.
Dybantsa averages 23.6 points and 6.8 rebounds on the season for the Cougars, who face No. 1 Arizona Monday evening at the Marriott Center.
Dybantsa shares this distinction with Illinois freshman shooting guard Keaton Wagler who scored 46 points in the Fighting Illini’s 88-82 win over No. 4 Purdue on Saturday.
