A.J. Dybantsa Named To The Sporting News All-American First Team

Wednesday, BYU freshman guard/forward A.J. Dybantsa was named to The Sporting News All-American First Team.

The 6’9″ Dybantsa was the first Cougar since Jimmer Fredette to receive this distinction when he became a consensus All-American and the national player of the year in the 2010-11 season.

Dybantsa is currently averaging 25.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game this season following his 40-point, 9-rebound peformance in the Cougars’ 105-91 win over Kansas State Tuesday evening in the first round of the Big 12 Conference Tournament at Kansas City, Mo.

Dybantsa is joined on The Sporting News All-America First Team by:

Michigan senior forward Yaxel Lendeborg (14.7 points, 7.2 rebounds per game)

Arkansas freshman guard Darius Acuff Jr. (22.2 points, 6.4 assists per game)

Duke freshman forward Cameron Boozer (22.7 points, 10.2 rebounds per game)

Iowa State senior center Joshua Jefferson (16.6 points, 7.4 rebounds per game)

Dybantsa and his BYU teammates compete this evening in the Big 12 Tournament second round against West Virginia for a 5:00 pm MDT tipoff.

Later Wednesday, Dybantsa was also named as a finalist for the Lute Olson National Player of the Year award.
