Wasatch High School Boys Soccer team is headed to the semi-finals of the State Tournament this Tuesday at 6 pm at Juan Diego High School. The Wasps will compete against the Olympus Titans for a chance at the final game on Thursday at Rio Tinto Stadium. Wasatch defeated Skyline last Friday afternoon 4-0 to move on in the tournament.
The boys soccer team has had a history of making it to the final games, including a state championship in 2011 and 2013, and the semi-finals in 2012. Carlos Vargas leads the team this year in goals scored, and is hoping to repeat older brother Ceaser Vargas in bringing home the championship trophy.
Wasatch claimed its first region title in 5A with a 12-1-2 record and will have to get through Olympus on Tuesday to get a chance at either Brighton or Skyridge in the finals. This is Coach Jared Hendry first year as head coach and is looking forward to this week’s play.
