Woman found dead in home destroyed by fire in Utah

ROY, Utah (AP) — The body of a woman was found inside a home destroyed by a fire Sunday, firefighters said.

Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire in Roy, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) north of Salt Lake City, but then spent several hours shoring up the home before it was safe to enter and search for the homeowner, Roy Fire Capt. Matthew Heslop told the Deseret News.

Firefighters found the woman as well as a cat inside the home. Her name has not been released by authorities yet.

The state fire marshal also responded to the home to investigate the cause of the fire. It could take some time before a cause is determined, Roy Deputy Fire Chief Leroy Gleichmann said.
