Woman Attacked While Running on Cedar City Trail; Suspect Sought

CEDAR CITY, Utah-Monday, an 18-year-old woman was reportedly attacked by a man on the Thunderbird Garden Trail in Cedar City.

The woman informed authorities she parked her vehicle at the trailhead just east of the golf course and ran eastbound on Ghost Flats Trail, per the Iron County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman headed back to the parking lot when a man, hiding next to the trail, jumped out and hit her in the head with a rock at approximately 3:30 pm.

She was knocked to the ground but was able to get back on her feet and she escaped with only minor injuries.

The sheriff’s office described the man as “tall, skinny, in his early 40’s with shoulder-length brown hair.” The report also attests he was wearing tan cargo shirts and a blue/white medical grade face mask.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help in finding the attacker. Anyone who frequently uses this trail, lives nearby or has seen a person in that area matching the description is asked to contact the Iron County Sheriff’s Office at (435) 867-7500.
