(Salt Lake City, UT) — A state senator is apologizing for repeating claims that opponents of a data center in Box Elder County were funded by the Chinese Communist Party. Republican Senator Todd Weiler claimed he was deceived in a social media post on Monday. The post included a statement from billionaire Kevin O’Leary that said there was no evidence that Alliance for Better Utah, Elevate Strategies and three individuals who oppose the data center received money from China or the Chinese Communist Party. Weiler’s six-word statement said, “Oops. I was duped. Sorry everyone.”
