Utah Senate President Stuart Adams speaks during a media availability, Monday, Feb. 27, 2023, at the Utah State Capitol, in Salt Lake City. A push to mandate that members of religious clergy report child sexual abuse when it's brought to their attention is facing pushback from churches throughout the United States. That's the case in Utah, where four separate proposals to narrow the so-called clergy-penitent privilege loophole have not received hearings in the statehouse as lawmakers prepare to adjourn for the year. Utah Senate President Threatens To Sue Critics

(Layton, UT) — The president of the Utah Senate is threatening to sue his critics. Senator Stuart Adams of Layton says critics, including the state auditor, must correct their statements or he’ll sue for defamation. Adams lost his GOP primary race back in June. He claims State Auditor Tina Cannon made false statements about him on the God and Country Podcast. He believes two podcast hosts also made false statements. Cannon responded by saying she won’t be bullied and she hopes Adams does sue so he can answer her questions under oath.
