Utah Jobless Rate Rises, Still Near Historic Low

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah’s job growth slowed and the unemployment rate rose in August, but the jobless rate is still near historic lows. Unemployment was up half-a-percent last month, to two-point-five percent, one of the lowest jobless rates on record. Utah employers added 41-thousand new jobs, a marked slowdown from previous months. Department of Workforce Services economist Mark Knold said the slowdown in job growth is a sign the state’s job market has slowed from what he called “its red-hot pace of the past two years.”
