(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah wildlife officials inspected more than eight-thousand boats over Memorial Day weekend as part of efforts to stop invasive mussels from spreading into state waterways. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said crews checked watercraft at inspection stations across the state for quagga and zebra mussels, which can damage boats and water systems. Officials also reminded boaters to clean, drain and dry their watercraft before entering another lake or reservoir. Utah has increased inspections in recent years to help protect lakes, reservoirs and irrigation systems from invasive species.
