Utah boy dies after apparent accidental shooting in home

KAMAS, Utah (AP) — An 11-year-old Utah boy died after an apparent accidental shooting on Tuesday, authorities said.

The boy was shot in the chest at a home near Kamas and died despite deputies efforts to save him, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said.

Detectives were investigating how the firearm was accessed and how it was fired.

“Our hearts are broken, and we mourn with the family of the little boy,” the office said in a statement.

This boy has since been identified as Cash Cover.

Cover and his brother had received permission to play with a BB gun on the property, officials confirmed.

The brothers and their mother were both outside just before the accident when the two boys went inside the home to access a handgun from the bedroom.

Shortly thereafter, the mother heard screaming from inside the house and Cash Cover was seen with a gunshot wound.

The family asks for privacy as they mourn the loss of their young son.
