TUCSON, Ariz.-Thursday afternoon, the Tucson Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was placed under evacuation as the Bighorn Fire rages in the Santa Catalinas mountain range north of Tucson, Ariz.
The Salt Lake City-based faith confirmed that this temple, which was dedicated August 13, 2017 by Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and at that time, of The First Presidency, is under the “SET-be alert” caution of potential evacuation.
This report was corroborated by KGUN-Channel 9, Tucson’s ABC affiliate.
Per the Federal Emergency Management Agency, 850 Tucsonan homes were under evacuation threat as of Thursday afternoon. Furthermore, FEMA reports nearly 300 homes in the city of roughly 548,073 residents were placed under evacuation orders.
There is progress being made Friday morning, however, as KOLD-Channel 13 of Tucson evening anchor Brooke Wagner confirmed.
