The Tabernacle Choir Performs First Concert On Mexico City Tour

MEXICO CITY-More than 500 gathered for The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square’s first concert on their Mexico City tour Thursday at Catedral de San José of nearby Toluca, Mexico.

The concert opened with remarks by Archbishop Raúl Gómez González of the Catholic Archdiocese of Toluca.

Tabernacle Choir president Michael O. Leavitt remarked the cathedral provided “the ideal backdrop” for the Choir’s first concert in the Mexico City area. Leavitt said the cathedral complements the Choir’s mission to help people “feel a greater connection to the Divine.”

Other prominent figures in attendance included Monsignor Daniel Alberto Medina Pech, the president of the Interfaith Council of the State of Mexico; Pedro Mena, the director of religious affairs of the State of Mexico and Rafael Martinez, the religious affairs director for The City of Toluca.

The Choir and Orchestra presented a wide repertoire of multicultural songs and hymns in multiple languages. They included Spanish, English, Ladino (Judeo Spanish) and Yorùbá.

Two more concerts will occur Saturday and Sunday at the National Auditorium of Mexico City.

During a news conference, Elder L. Whitney Clayton, the first counselor in The Tabernacle Choir presidency, stated the Choir has plans to tour in 2026, making stops in Latin America, Asia and Europe.
