MEXICO CITY-Per a Wednesday report, The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square returned to Mexico City for the first time since 1972.
Tuesday, after their arrival in the fifth-largest city in the world, the choir will perform three concerts as part of their world tour with the theme of “hope.”
The more than 400 singers and musicians were greeted by a traditional Mariachi band.
The choir’s first performance this week is scheduled for Thursday evening at the Cathedral of Toluca (Catedral de Toluca) and is to feature a spiritual repertoire.
The choir will then return to the Auditorio Nacional (National Anthem) where it performed during its 1972 tour. This entails two performances on Saturday and Sunday.
The Mexico City concerts will also feature guest artists from Mexico and emphasize the musicality of the Mexican culture.
The Choir and other orchestra members will also participate in service projects and cultural activities. They will record a music video at various landmarks which will air during the concerts.
For the first time, admission tickets were distributed free of charge.
Watch parties will occur throughout Mexico at meetinghouses of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in that country.
This is the Choir’s first performance out of the United States since 2019.
