SALT LAKE CITY-As predicated upon current information from medical and government officials, effective summer 2021, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints plans to conduct For the Strength of Youth conferences in the United States and Canada.
Wards are encouraged to reserve on the dates they are assigned to attend.
Should covid-19 data become less propitious around the world than is currently being forecast, the format of the conference may change or sessions may be postponed.
If needed, an alternate youth activity will be provided.
All affected congregations will receive additional communication as soon as decisions are made.
The purpose of these conferences is to assist youth in the Church in strengthening their testimonies in Christ.
These conferences include up to five days of devotionals, classes and activities.
The Salt Lake City-based faith encourages all youth to attend.
The Church also exhorts wards to attend on weeks assigned, even if this protocol should disrupt previously planned activities, such as youth camps. Wards are encouraged to make necessary changes for youth to attend on assigned weeks.
It is recommended that young single adults serve as volunteer counselors at this event. The recommendations for FSY counselors to serve in this capacity are to be submitted by October 15.
The Church also asks that all stake presidencies in the United States and Canada call a stake FSY representative per this Tuesday statement.
Once this calling is extended and accepted, FSY representatives are to do the following:
become familiar with the FSY Web site (https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/youth/childrenandyouth/fsy/about?lang=eng) and refer leaders, parents, youth and young single adults to the appropriate pages.
-provide information and respond to questions from youth, parents, young single adults and stake and ward leaders
-encourage all young, eligible single adults to apply to be FSY counselors
-support volunteer FSY counselor training activities as requested in cooperation with the FSY office
-assist with additional assignments as needed.
Stake FSY representatives should do the following:
-act as liaisons between the FSY office and ward FSY representatives (communicating information concerning session dates, location, registration and transportation)
-coordinate transportation of the youth between the stake center to the FSY location(s) with families and local leaders
-follow up on youth registration reports to encourage and help all eligible youth to register
-support efforts before/after the FSY session to build enthusiasm and take the FSY experience “home.”
All youth within an invited stake are to attend during the same year, although wards within a stake may be assigned to different sessions.
The Church exhorts all stakes to plan at least two one-day stake FSY activities within the year they have been assigned to attend.
More information will be revealed in the upcoming months.
