The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Releases Location For Papua New Guinea Temple

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea-Tuesday, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released an exterior rendering showing the planned design for the Port Moresby Papua New Guinea Temple.

This comes as project leaders commence the process of working with local government officials relating to the temple’s design in preparation for the eventual groundbreaking and beginning of construction.

This temple was announced in October 2019 by Church President Russell M. Nelson and is to be built at Muniogo Crescent, Badili, Port Moresby Papua New Guinea.

Plans are calling for a single-story temple consisting of approximately 9,550 square feet.

Plans call for apartments for missionaries and temple patrons, a temple president’s residence and a distribution center to be constructed on-site.

The meetinghouse currently on-site is to be replaced amid these renovations to the property.

There are currently 30,825 Latter-day Saints in Papua New Guinea in two stakes. The nation boasts two family history centers and two missions.

The Church has had a presence in the island nation since 1979, when a branch was established in Port Moresby.
