BERLIN-In news from earlier in June, over 700 young adult members and friends of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gathered at Berlin for a Europe-wide service conference.
The conference entailed these people providing volunteer service at the 2023 Special Olympics.
They were invited to join the large opening ceremony at Olympiastadion.
They assisted during the Special Olympics from June 16-June 25.
Conference representatives came from 48 countries, most of which are in Europe.
The Church provided accommodation, food and social activities for all conference participants. The Special Olympics organization provided public transportation, shuttle services, volunteer equipment, training and assignments to over 21 volunteer roles.
The Special Olympics are the world’s largest inclusive sporting event featuring 7,000 athletes with disabilities competing in 26 disciplines.
Over 12,000 volunteers from around the world assisted with the games this year.
