MOSES LAKE, Wash.-On what has been a busy Friday for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Salt Lake City-based faith announced the groundbreaking date for the Moses Lake Washington Temple.
Church leaders will break ground for this temple in October 2020. Presiding at this event will be Kennewick, Wash. native Elder David L. Stapleton, an Area General Authority.
Because of social distancing guidelines in Washington, attendance at this event is by invitation only.
Photos and video of the event will be available to the media and public following the groundbreaking services.
The Moses Lake Washington Temple is to be constructed on a 17-acre site located on Yonezawa Boulevard between Division Street and Road K NE.
Plans call for a single-story building of approximately 20,000 square feet with a center spire.
A 17,000-square-foot meetinghouse will also be constructed alongside the temple.
This temple was announced at the April 2019 General Conference by Church President Russell M. Nelson.
This will be Washington state’s fourth temple upon completion.
Other temples in Washington include the Seattle Washington Temple (1980), the Spokane Washington Temple (1999) and the Columbia River Temple (2001) located at Richland, Wash.
Presently, 289,479 Washingtonians are Latter-day Saints, or 3.91 percent (1 in 26) of the state’s population.
This consists of 62 stakes, seven missions and 97 family history centers in The Evergreen State.
