Sister Patricia Holland Passes Away Thursday

SALT LAKE CITY-Thursday, Sister Patricia Terry Holland, the wife of Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of The Quorum of Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away per reports.

Sister Holland passed away peacefully after a brief hospitalization at the age of 81.

Sister Holland was born February 16, 1942 and grew up on a farm in Enterprise, Utah. She was the daughter of Maeser and Marilla Terry.

Sister Holland, in previous remarks, said she grew up a “tomboy,” helping on the family farm.

As she began her high school years, Patricia Terry moved to nearby St. George and attended Dixie High School.

She made many friends as a Dixie High School Flyer, including “Jeff Holland,” as locals called him. Patricia called him “the handsomest boy in the school.”

They were married June 7, 1963 at the St. George Temple following a five-year courtship.

They had three children, Matthew, Mary Alice and David, and thirteen grandchildren.

Sister Holland was a graduate of Dixie High School, Dixie College and LDS Business College (Ensign College).

Sister Holland served as a Relief Society president on four occasions and later worked in the Primary and Young Women’s organizations.

She was the author of several books, including the award-winning A Quiet Heart and Strength and Stillness: A Message For Women.

At a worldwide devotional for youth in the Church earlier this year, Sister Holland declared “Please have faith in God, hope that He will help you and receive the charity that enables Him to work through you to accomplish what only you can do.”
