LONDON-Thursday, Sister Camille N. Johnson, the General Relief Society President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spoke concerning religious freedom at the 2023 Notre Dame Law School Religious Liberty Summit at the Inner Temple of London.
Sister Johnson is the third Latter-day Saint leader to speak at this summit, joining President Dallin H. Oaks of the The Church’s First Presidency and Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Church’s Quorum of Twelve Apostles.
Sister Johnson explained why the Salt Lake City-based Church believes in religious freedom, sharing the following tenets:
The Church believes in a universal right to free exercise of conscience
The Church follows a front-door policy of operating in countries pursuant to law
The Church is politically neutral and reserves the right to speak out on important moral issues
The Church extends respect, care and relief to all people in all circumstances
Sister Johnson also confirmed the organization she presides over, The Relief Society (1842-present), plays a key role in the Church’s humanitarian efforts throughout the world.
