SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Democratic councilwoman has joined a crowded field of candidates in aiming to become mayor of Salt Lake City.
The Deseret News reports Erin Mendenhall launched her campaign for mayor Sunday, joining the race ahead of the June filing deadline.
Mendenhall was elected to a second term on the council in 2017. She served as council chair last year.
She has been an advocate for clean air, cofounding Breathe Utah and serving on the state Air Quality Board.
At least 10 people have announced their candidacy, including state lawmakers and a former councilman.
The primary election is on Aug. 13.
