Richfield Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Woman

RICHFIELD, Utah-Monday, a Richfield man who police say sexually assaulted a woman trying to buy a washer and dryer was formally charged.

61-year-old Russell S. Curtis has been charged in 6th District Court in Sevier County with object rape, a first-degree felony.

He is also being charged with forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony and unlawful detention and theft, each of which are class B misdemeanors.

Last Wednesday, a woman inquired about buying a washer and dryer and met Curtis at a storage shed facility in Richfield.

Curtis then took the woman to the shed where the washer and dryer were stored and closed the bay door down halfway per a police affidavit.

Per the affidavit, Curtis told the woman she wasn’t going anywhere and informed her he wanted to take pictures of her.

The woman successfully escaped and told Curtis she would come over to his house if he let her go.

Curtis has already been under investigation this year by Richfield City Police for alleged voyeurism. As of Monday, no charges had been filed in that case.
