A fire in Salt Lake City that’s burning above the University of Utah is now moving further away from homes. While the firefight remains dynamic, a shelter-in-place order was lifted last night. At last check, the so-called Bonneville Fire was about 500 acres in size and containment was at five-percent. Residents should continue to be ready to evacuate in case the conditions change.
Firefighters have managed to prevent any homes from burning after the Iron Fire increased to about 22-thousand acres. It’s currently burning in parts of Juab and Utah counties after first breaking out on Friday near Eureka. Investigators believe the fire was human-caused. Governor Spencer Cox is crediting firefighters with preventing the flames from destroying homes.
The so-called Hastings Fire is now over six-thousand acres in size. Crews in Tooele County continue to fight the flames from the ground and the air. No structures are threatened and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Hastings Pass is currently closed.
