SALT LAKE CITY-In information released Thursday, longtime KUTV News anchor Shauna Lake will no longer be with Salt Lake City’s CBS affiliate after her second DUI March 14.
KUTV general manager Kent Crawford said the station does not comment on individual personnel matters.
Lake’s departure comes after police reported she was driving under the influence near the Salt Lake City International Airport.
Her attorney, Scott Williams, entered a plea of “not guilty” on her behalf to DUI, which is a class B misdemeanor, in Salt Lake City Justice Court.
Williams did not immediately return a message seeking comment Thursday, but last month, noted potential evidence could work in his client’s favor that has not yet come to light.
Court documents attest that 49-year-old Shauna Lake Marshall of Holladay was cited March 14 after an airline employee noticed her driving to the pickup area. She struggled to maintain her balance as she got into the back seat, per court documents.
The employee then stopped her from driving as she allegedly took the wheel again.
As a Salt Lake City police officer arrived on the scene, he noticed Lake staggering as she walked. She had slurred speech and an odor of alcohol on her breath, an affidavit filed in 3rd District Court.
She was then released into the custody of a person who was able to safely drive her home.
In 2017, Lake pleaded guilty to a similar charge after which she made a tearful on-air apology to viewers following her arrest. At this time, she pleaded guilty to impaired driving, a class B misdemeanor, after being pulled over on I-215 near 1200 East by a Utah Highway Patrol trooper.
Her blood alcohol level was .10 percent, above the legal limit of .08 percent. Presently, Utah’s DUI threshold is .05 percent.
In this case, Lake was originally charged with driving under the influence. In exchange for her guilty plea, other charges, including having an open container of alcohol on the highway, were dismissed.
Lake was sentenced to 12 months of probation, fined $1,460 and ordered to complete eight hours of community service and attend a seminar from Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
Her attorney at the time said she had completed an intensive outpatient treatment program.
Lake is scheduled to return to court for a pretrial conference July 9.
