Governor Herbert’s Office Allows Electronic Signature Gathering For Olympia Hills Referendum

SALT LAKE CITY-Thursday, Utah Governor Gary Herbert’s office issued an executive order allowing individuals to electronically gather signatures on a referendum to put the controversial Olympia Hills development up for a public vote.

The governor’s office said they recognize social distancing because of COVID-19 and the adverse effect it may have if physical signatures were sought.

Lorin Palmer, a key contributor to Utah For Responsible Growth, a group that opposes this development, said his group has only 42 days to gather more than 82,000 signatures and therefore get the referendum on the ballot.

Palmer said his organization will be emailing signature requests to registered voters in Salt Lake County. The voters may sign the form and submit it by email or fax.
