(Salt Lake City, UT) — Flags across Utah are lowered in honor of a pair of firefighters killed in a helicopter crash while battling the Widemouth 2 Fire. Governor Spencer Cox ordered all U.S. and state flags to half-staff yesterday. Miles Elliot of Porterville, California was the pilot of the Sikorsky Skycrane that went down Friday in Richfield, while the second victim has been identified as Christopher Andersen of Iowa. The governor said in a statement that they “dedicated their lives to serving others, and they made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our state.” Cox went on to say that Utah “mourns with their families and loved ones and honors two men who came to our aid when we needed them most.” Flags will remain lowered until sunset on the day of the last interment.
