First Case of COVID-19 Community Spread Reported In Summit County

SALT LAKE CITY-Saturday, the Utah Department of Health confirmed a new case of COVID-19 marks the first instance of community spread of this disease in Utah.

This means, at this stage, the source of this infection remains unknown but previous diagnosed cases of this new coronavirus were from residents who had recently traveled to infected areas.

This patient is a male Summit County resident between the ages of 18 and 60, per the Utah Health Department.

This man had no “previous history of travel” nor any known contact with someone affected by COVID-19.

It was revealed Saturday that he is an employee of the Spur Bar and Grill of Park City.

He has since been interviewed by public health officials. It is believed that the biggest risk at this stage is to his co-workers.

The man, whose job is at the bar, did not require him to interact with any customer for extended periods of time.

In a release issued by Dr. Rich Bullough, the executive director of the Summit County Health Department, it is not believed any of the patrons are at high risk.

However, anyone who visited the bar, per the statement, since March 6, should monitor themselves for symptoms such as fever, cough and shortness of breath.

Officials confirmed the bar closed Friday evening and a thorough cleansing occurred.

A release issued by the Utah Department of Health confirms residents should not report to clinics or hospitals if there are no present symptoms.

In the meantime, those who feel ill should use telehealth or call your healthcare provider to find out if testing is necessary so that hospitals, clinics and emergency rooms are not overloaded.
