Current Online Education Continued Through End of School Year

Yesterday afternoon, Gov. Gary R. Herbert and State Superintendent Syd Dickson announced that Utah’s K-12 public schools will extend their dismissal through the end of the school year.

During the announcement, Superintendent Dickson highlighted the following areas to focus on for the remainder of the school year:

  • Ensure students are fed
  • Ensure we continue on with learning
  • Ensure our students who are ready to graduate can do so
  • Recognize the social/emotional needs of students, families and teachers

At Wasatch, we will continue to align our priorities with those outlined above as follows:

  • Our daily grab-and-go lunches at Timpanogos Middle School, Heber Valley Elementary, Daniels Canyon Elementary, Midway Elementary and J.R. Smith Elementary will continue to be served through the end of the school year.
  • We will build upon the successes we’ve had in online learning, and will continue to work with our building principals, teachers and coaches to improve in areas that need support.
  • Teachers and staff at Wasatch High School will work on a strategy to complete the year and determine the next steps for a graduation ceremony and what that will look like.
  • Our building and District counselors and social workers will continue to be available as a resource for students and families struggling with mental health concerns.

The Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) has canceled all remaining spring activities, including sports, and state championships. Current UHSAA policies prohibiting the use of school facilities and organizing practice and/or team gatherings remain in effect until further notice.

As a District, we have been proud of the many ways our teachers, parents and students have risen to this challenge, and know with focus and resolve, we will finish strong. We encourage all families to continue to self-isolate the help keep our children and our community safe and well.

Thank you for supporting your students and their continued learning. Please reach out to your student’s building principal or teachers with any comments or concerns. For additional guidance, visit http://coronavirus.wasatch.utah.gov/.
