More than 10% of the water carried by the Colorado River evaporates, leaks or spills as the 1,450-mile powerhouse river of the West flows through the region’s dams, reservoirs and open-air canals. Colorado River Agreement Plans Have Been Submitted

(Undated) — The future of Utah Water has been submitted to the Bureau of Reclamation. While the seven states that use the water initially wanted to create a unified plan for after 2026, that ultimately failed and the groups split into their predetermined upper and lower basin groups. Utah is part of the upper basin with Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Their plan would result in only California, Arizona and Nevada cutting their water usage based on Lake Powell and Lake Mead. The lower basin plan focuses on all seven reservoirs and would trigger water cut more evenly across all seven states.
